The Town of Edson is bringing Canada Day back to RCMP Centennial Park.
The Town of Edson has not been able to host any major Canada Day celebrations since 2019. The 2020 celebrations were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2021 celebrations were greatly scaled back.
But a full day of live music and entertainment returns to RCMP Centennial Park this July 1, 2022.
Diana Inscho, Community Develop Coordinator for the Town of Edson, says people are ready to party.
“I was just finalizing things, and people are already questioning and wondering when things are going on and what is going on,” shares Inscho. “So I know there is a lot of anticipation this year and people are really excited.”
It begins at 9 a.m. at the Legion Hall in Edson, where the Edson Legion will be hosting a pancake breakfast. The breakfast is free, but they will be collecting donations for the Food Bank.
Festivities begin at RCMP Centennial Park at 2 p.m. It starts with the opening ceremonies and the handing out of cupcakes.
On site all day will be the artisan market, inflatables and games for the kids, and a variety of food trucks.
Taking to the main stage at 2:30 p.m. is a slate of family entertainers.
First is the Great Balanzo, who will be doing acrobatics, juggling, and balancing.
Next up is Trixtan Entertainment, performing with bubbles and hula hoops. They will also be doing demonstrations for the kids.
The family entertainment wraps up with the Kehewin Native Dance Threatre, who will be conducting Indigenous dancing and drumming.
After a moment for the stage to reset, the outdoor concert begins at 8:30 p.m. Headlining the outdoor concert is Canadian country music artist Drew Gregory.
“He has several albums. He has won Alberta County Music Artist of the year several times, and I have seen him perform and he is top notch,” says Inscho. “He is going to put on a great show.”
The evening concludes with fireworks at 11:15 p.m.
Incho would like to extend her thanks to Heritage Canada, who provided a grant to help cover the costs this year, and to the Galloway Station Museum for being a partner in organizing the events.
